Why Jesus?

Why Jesus?

For those who haven’t decided to follow Jesus this is a huge question.  Click here if this is you.  But, for those who are followers of Jesus, this question becomes more basic.  For followers of Jesus Christ, studying the life and teachings of Jesus comes first.  Over time,  growth in the love of Jesus may result in the following:

1. a heart of love for Jesus
2. a daily hunger for understanding about Jesus’ teachings
3. a desire to follow Jesus’ pattern of living
4. a feeling of being deeply loved by Jesus, accepted by God, and feeling thankful for God’s grace
5. a lifestyle that mirrors Jesus’ way of living
6. a true submission to the authority of Jesus
7. a heart that wants to serve, love & heal others
8. a real love for God

No matter what parts of the Bible are of interest and no matter what steps of faith are needed, followers should not skip Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for long.  It is best for followers to study Jesus concurrently with any other faith studies.   Try Jesus Journal Journey or other Jesus resources.
It starts by answering Jesus when He says “follow me.”  When Jesus says this, you can either continue with life as usual, or you can jump up to follow Him.  Making this happen is not a result of a class, or a matter of intellectual growth. This is a spiritual process that happens in the mind, the heart and the soul. It can not be swallowed like medicine, or pasted in like data. This is a work of God.  Each follower of Christ has a role in this work.  Begin thinking now about your schedule, and when you would like to get closer and confident with Jesus.
John 14:27
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”(NLT)

Matthew 11:29-30
“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”(NLT)

Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.”(NLT)

Moments to sit and listen to Jesus are amazing!  You can listen to Jesus in your bedroom or your favorite quiet place. In that quiet place, you can open the Bible in paper or digital form.  There needs to be a moment everyday (or at least regularly) where you can be encouraged and strengthened by the teachings and life of Jesus. Start as soon as possible for a life-long journey with Jesus.
